After a 3 year absence, this competition returned with an entry of 28 competitors. Following the washout of the qualifying rounds the previous Friday due to very heavy rain throughout the day, the running of this year's competition looked in doubt but thanks to the cooperation of the qualfying venues & players it was managed to be rearranged for the following Monday. The final night, which concluded the season, saw the appreciate crowd witness some good bowling despite the heavy green caused by the heavy rain earlier in the day. Colin Moore (London Sphynx) was the deserved winner of the Steve Rimmer Memorial Singles Shield as he played consistently to a high level throughout the tournament despite the changing weather conditions. In the final, which was a fitting tribute to Steve Rimmer, he beat Kes Adams, who earlier in the season lost to the same score in the President's Day final to another London Sphynx player, 21-18 playing 3/4 corner marks, despite the earlier success he had playing a mark across the middle of green from the club to the clubhouse & back, to try & negate Kes's striking prowess. The turning point of the final was when Colin led 19-16, after Kes had been a comeback from 12-19 down on a straight mark across the green, he played a wonder wood to tapped out Kes's toucher to leave himself one to go to all-but despite Kes then taking singles in the next two ends to reduce the lead to 18-20. Colin than capitalized on a poor lead from Kes to play a foot front wood which Kes could beat to leave Colin with the one he needed to take the coveted title. The trophy & prizemoney were then presented to the winners by the last winner of the competition, Mr Bill Roddan, following the speech from the secretary which paid tribute to the contribution Steve Rimmer made to the league over many years as well as thanking Banks St Stephens BC for hosting the event & to all the league players & spectators who supported this competition.
