In front of a good & appreciative crowd on a seasonal warm autumn evening on the superb Burscough RBL BC green, Roy Webster (Banks St Stephens) deservedly won the Steve Rimmer Memorial Singles Shield title for the 2nd time (his previous success was in 2010). He was never troubled during the final night, playing his favourite three quarter corner-mark superbly well all evening which his opponents could not match. Earlier in the evening, Roy accounted for Steve McCall (Longton VM) 21-14 in the last eight & John Mills (Burscough RBL), who had reached the semi-finals for the second year running, 21-8. Whilst in the other half of the draw, Duncan Crabtree (Longton VM) was in brillant form to account for Carl Hankin (London Hotel) 21-9 in the last 8 & Andy Howie (Burscough RBL) 21-14 in the semi-final. In the final, Roy's brillant play did not allow Duncan to recreate his earlier form & he easily won 21-9, despite losing the first two ends, to take the match & the coveted title. The League & competitors would like to give many thanks to David Taylor (League Chairman) for presenting the trophy & prizemoney, Burscough RBL Bowling Club for the use of their facilities at such short notice & the league members who helped in the running of this competition as well as supporting this competition, making it a very memorable & fitting tribute to Steve Rimmer.
