THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR MARK CHESTER

 

It was third time lucky for Mark Chester of Fox Lane BC who finally won the Burscough & Lathom Bowling League’s Under-18 merit title, after being the runner-up for the last two years.

 

Mark beat Steve Edwards (New Longton) 15-7 in a one sided final using his favourite off the crown swinging mark to great effect, which Steve had no answer to despite his best efforts.

 

In the semi-finals, Steve beat Eddie Rimmer (Zetland) 15-12 & Mark beat David Gibbons (Scarisbrick BC) 15-7.

 

In the early round-robin group stages, David in Group A was undefeated with wins of 15-4, 15-10, 15-8 & 15-3, whilst Mark won Group B with wins of 15-12, 15-2 & 15-3, Steve won Group C with wins of 15-7, 15-4 & 15-3. The semi-finals were made up by Eddie who was the best runner-up, whose only defeat was against Mark Chester in a tough match which Mark eventually won 15-12. It was good to see a creditable attendance of 13 competitors, many of which had not played in the competition before & their ages ranged from 8 to 17. It was good to see them  enjoying every minute of the afternoon & produced some top quality play for the assembled crowd to enjoy on the superb London Hotel Green on a beautiful hot afternoon.

 

During the presentation, the league president, Mr. Eddie Harding of London Hotel BC, presented the trophies, prizemoney & certificates to all successful competitors. The secretary, Mr Keith Robinson, thanked London Hotel BC for the use of their facilities, & Roy Wignall & Alan Wright for their help in the successful running of the event. He also thanked the competitors for their good sportsmanship throughout the competition & hoped to see most of them at next year’s event.
