Adrian Ditchfield (Croston Black Horse), & a guest of the President, won his second President's Day title in four years by beating Tommy Draper (Promenade) 21-12 in a one-sided final. He totally dominated the final with some excellant lead bowling & took a 10-1 early advantage after only 7 ends, which he extended to 18-9 after 17 ends & took the game & title 21-12 after 23 ends. Even though he won his early round matches convincingly 15-10 & 21-4, he was tested to the wire in his quarter-final game with Dave Pennington (Zetland) who at one stage led 18-14. But using his favourite mark along the edge of the green, Adrian made a great comeback to seal the victory 21-19 including playing four superb last ends, even though he sent the block off the green on the final end. After this tussle, Adrian beat George Bradley (Promenade) 21-10 in the semi-final. In the other half of the draw, Tommy Draper (Promenade) was playing consistently well & using his green knowledge to cruise to the semi-final with wins of 15-8, 21-11 & 21-11. In the semi-final, he just got the better of Kevin Leddy (Hesketh Arms) 21-15.

33 competitors took part in this excellent event hosted by the League President, Mr. Eddie Harding (London Hotel). They were rewarded with a thoroughly enjoyable day, which included a superb buffet. Play throughout the day was of the highest standard on the superb green.

After the final, the league president, Mr. Eddie Harding, presented the prizes to the winners & thanked his club members for their help, Keith Robinson, league secretary, for running another excellent event as well as to all the competitors who had taken part in the event. He finished by saying that he had fully enjoyed his day.
