Congratulations to Duncan Crabtree (Longton VM) & Wayne Ditchfield (Bretherton) on winning the 36th running of the League Pairs Competition by beating Carl Gregson & Andy Howie (Burscough RBL) 21-17 in a closely contested final in front of a good crowd on a beautiful September evening. In the final on the superb Hoole Village Hall green, the bowling was of a very high quality & after 7 ends Carl & Andy led 5-3 but over the next 10 ends, Duncan led brillantly on his favourite mark across the middle of the green ably assisted by Wayne with breaks of 7 & 9 to lead 19-6. However, Carl & Andy clawed their way back into the game in the corners over the next 7 ends to take the score to 14-19 before Duncan & Wayne scored a single on the 25th end to make it 20-14. At the next end, Carl & Andy scored a 3 (17-20) before Wayne in wicked off his own wood to score the final chalk they needed to take this coveted title with his last wood of the end. Peter Carr (Hoole Village Hall) presented the trophy & prizemoney after Jason Wright (Chairman) had made a speech to thank everyone who was involved in running another successful competition including the final night hosts, Hoole Village Hall, the greenkeepers, the players, markers, measurers & secretary, Keith Robinson.
