Congratulations to Ian Grady & Tim Hodge (Banks St Stephens) on winning the 34th running of the League Pairs Competition, after a two year break due to COVID-19 restrictions, thrashing John Coupe & Neil Helm (Bretherton) 21-4 in the final at Hoole Village Hall. In the final, the match was of a very high standard & the score did not reflect the closest of the game as Ian & Tim both played the corners exceptionally well & never gave John or Neil a chance as they beat any winning bowl their opponents managed to play. In the Last 8, Ian & Tim won 21-2 & then in the semi-finals, they led 11-5 & were looking to ease through to the final until John Greenwood & Shaun Taylor had a 10 break along the side of the green to lead 15-11 & it took a near toucher perfect wood by Tim to get them off this mark & four ends later playing their favourite corner mark they ran out winners 21-15. Whilst John & Neil had a tough last 8 match against Bill Roddan & Tom Wright winning a close match 21-18 with a 4 at the last end. In their semi-final, they comfortablely beat Kes Adams & Darren Edgerley 21-11, who could not reproduce their earlier form when they won 21-2 in the Last 8. Roger Lambert (Hoole Village Hall) presented the trophy & prizemoney after Keith Robinson (League Secretary) had made a speech remembering Peter Brooks, who the competition was named after this season, who was a well respected member of the league for many years being a key player in the successful Mere Brow A team in the 90s & 2000s by winning the 1st Division Merit on 5 occasions as well as winning the League's President's Day in 2005. He then went on to thank everyone who was involved in running another successful competition.
