Despite the poor weather & in front of a small crowd, Mick Lynch & Eric Whitehead (Tarleton) were worthy winners of the 2009 league pairs competition. In the final, from five across after eight ends, they allowed their opponents, Jimmy Anderton & Philip Rigby (Mere Brow), who were unable to produce their earlier form, only four more singles, as they romped to victory 21-09 with consistent leading from Mick Lynch & good backup play from Eric Whitehead. In the semi-finals, Mick & Eric easily accounted for Dave Bridge & Peter Hodge (Mere Brow & Tarleton), who had reached the semi-final for the second year running, 21-14. Whilst Jimmy & Philip had a tough match against Denis Hunter & Barry Riding (Croston Subscription) which they just won 21-18. In the quarter-finals, Mick & Eric had their toughest game of the night against John Berry & John Cragg (Mere Brow) which they finally won 21-17 after leading 18-12. Whilst Dave & Peter easily accounted for Richard Jenkins & Keith Robinson (Banks St Stephens), 21-13, who could not produce their form of previous rounds which had see them beat last year's winners, Carl Birchall & Ian Grady. In the first quarter-final, Denis & Barry, had easily beaten homesters, Keith (Sid) Stafford & Peter Wilson (London Hotel), who never recovered from a shaky start, 21-08. Whilst Jimmy & Philip had beaten youngsters Steve Edwards Junior & Owen Jackson (New Longton) 21-15 after leading 18-10. The President, Mr. Eddie Harding (London Hotel), made the presentation to the worthy victors & prizewinners. The League & competitors would like to give many thanks to the President & London Hotel Bowling Club for the use of their excellent facilities including the superb condition of their green & to all league members who helped in the running of this competition, making it a very memorable & successful event.
